The lake was formed by glaciers at the end of the last ice age.The northern part is surrounded by mountains, the majority of which belong to Mount Baldo (Monte Baldo), accessible by a panoramic Cable-car from Malcesine.The surface area is about 370 km² and it is on an elevation of 65 m of Sea level,the max lenght from North to South is 51.90 km, the maximum width 16.70 km and the max. depth 346 m.
